Mombasa Full Day City Tour.
Mombasa is one of the oldest cities in Kenya with a fascinating history dating back to 200AD. It is also hosts the largest port in East Africa. Attractions in Mombasa include; the Mombasa Tusks (Mapembeni in Swahili), The Fort Jesus – built by the Portuguese, The Market (Markiti – in Swahili) for spices and colorful fabric, the Old Town for narrow old streets and the Akamba Wood Carvers.
Akamba Handicraft
A drive from the city centre to Mombasa West takes us to this center where we find people from the Kamba tribe who have formed an Association that seeks to empower individually talented craftsmen.
They will take us to their workshop where they practice their art, some carve wood, others paint on canvas, work with beads etc.
Next we visit their showroom where we find the finished products polished and ready for sale, if interested in a souvenir then you are at the right place.
Hindu Temple
A visit to this holy place to appreciate the Hindu/Buddhist doctrine where you find various idols in various form.
Tusks at Moi Avenue
Marvel at the ivory colored gigantic elephant tusks that define Mombasa’s landmark, put up to welcome the now deceased Queen of England who was a princess back then to commemorate her tour of Kenya. Take photos here!
Fort Jesus
Take a tour of this military fortification architecture of the 16th century by the Portuguese. Learn the rich history behind it; the interchange of cultural values among the Arabs, Africans (Mijikenda) Persian and European origin and the birth of the wa Swahili and how it influenced trade.
Old town/Old Port
Take a walk on the narrow streets of this ancient town and re imagine the 1900s. The time the first hotel was officially opened, old post office and the administrative centre, the old port is still functional to date.
Mama ngina drive
Drive around this recently refurbished scenic drive that borders the Indian ocean, with an amphitheater, sitting areas, Mombasa golf course, fun activities like horse riding, kids fun play areas, food and snack stalls, very old Baobab trees and much more.
City centre drive
Drive along the city and take in the CBD urban vibe, cruise along the busy Nkrumah road, Moi Avenue, Jomo Kenyatta avenue etc and learn how the town is divided depending on the particular commercial activity.
